energy delivery costs

Energy delivery costs are influenced by:

Network costs

Including transmission (powerlines and pipleines) and distribution costs. These are independently regulated by the Australian Energy Regulator.

Wholesale purchase costs

From gas supply and electrical generation companies.

Retail costs

Including billing and revenue collection, administration, customer service and systems.

The cost of your energy use is determined by:

The tarrif you're on

Like most retailers, we offer two different kinds of tariff - a flat rate tariff, which charges you the same amount all day every day for each kilowatt per hour (kWh), OR, flexible, time-of-use tariff.

With this kind, your kWh charge will be different at different times - peak times, off-peak, shoulder, etc. To know the particular tariff you're currently on, refer to the back of your bill.

Who your distributor is

The tariff options available to you for both electricity and gas will depend on who your energy distributor is, and that is determined by where you live.

Our Energy price facts sheet page will help you discover who your distributor is. In some cases, you can change your tariff - call us on 13 24 61 if you'd like to discuss.

How much you consume

Our energy bills provide a breakdown of how much energy you've consumed over the billing period, what you consumed at the same time last year, and how your household compares with others in your neighbourhood. See How to read my bill if you're looking for a detailed explanation.

Solar Feed-in-Tariffs

Sometimes, solar panels generate more energy than you use which means that you may qualify for a credit on your energy bill for sending energy back into the power grid. This is called a feed-in tariff. The rates depend on the state you live in, and may be funded by your state government, your energy retailer, or a mix of both.

Concessions and rebates

If you’re a concession cardholder, you could be eligible for a state government rebate, and a concession on your electricity and natural gas bills.
